Life on the Titan
Saturday the 22nd was a rostered P.U.R.G dive and the plan was to dive and photograph life on the Titan. The weather was looking pleasant with scattered cloud no wind and a slight swell. Alex and Lee the local Titan jinxes were on board so hopes were not high for the dive. These guys have tried diving the site several times with no luck could today be the breaker. We arrived on site to see the mooring just floating on the surface a good sign that there is no current. This had everyone eager to hit the water; we were just hoping the boys hoodoo would not affect visibility. Alex and Lee hit the water with the jinx raising its head and Alex's mask shattering luckily with only small scratches. After a frantic search for a replacement mask the boys along with Kev took off with the rest of us in hot pursuit. The first 8 metres visibility was poor with about 2 metres not a good sign the temperature was also dropping. At the 10 metre mark the green tinge disappeared and visibility increased to about 20-25 metres on the bottom. Over the last couple of dives we are of the impression that the wreck has sunk up to 2 metres and a lot of places seem to be a little worse for wear.
Today the wreck was showing all its colors with jewel anemones covering the deck. Fish life was also on display with Groupers, Old Wife's, Leather Jackets, Schooling Bait Fish and the ever present Mado's.
With time up we ascended to the smiles of Alex and Lee the hoodoo had been broken. The decision now was where to do our second dive and with little debate we decided to have an extended surface interval and dive the wreck again while conditions were good.
