PURG Dive 2 - 11-07-2010

The day greeted us with overcast sky’s with little to no wind. On board we had 10 divers to continue our survey and training program. Kerrie and Brett Davis and Alex and Russell were to do their first solo surveys. Steve and I were to introduce Mark, Andrew, Kylee and Garry to surveys.

Our first dive was on Bonny’s 12 a site we haven’t dived for quite a while but with a depth to give us freedom in time to do our surveys. Team Davis and Team AR (Alex & Russell) were first into the water and after tying off on the anchor travelled in opposite directions. Steve and I then took the rest of the divers and surveyed in an E/NE direction. The surveys were hampered by a swell that made it a bit of a challenge but not imposable. When we got back on the boat the discussion was all positive with some nice finds but nothing out of the ordinary.

The second dive it was decided to take the short trip to the Maze mooring. Due to the surge at the shallower depths we used this dive to introduce the newer divers the beauty we call the maze. With visibility at about 10 to 15 metres and very little affect from the swell the site bedazzled our maze virgins. Spiders were again abundant with 6 found on 1 sponge and Steve finding a nice specimen which resembled a praying mantis. The regulars were there Blue Groupers, Yellow Tail, Leatherjackets, Pomfreds and Old Wife’s. We also saw some deep Sea Pike and a nice Eastern Blue Devil just near the mooring.

Well done all divers for your commitment and enthusiasm.
